Artist & Project Development

Artist Development is a huge part of what we do and what we champion. Whether through our various creation units, our outreach programs, our script development residencies, or our current and upcoming mentorship initiatives, we're inspired to help talented and curious people step into their bravest, most authentic artist selves and to turn up the volume on their creative voices. So as you can imagine, at Cahoots there are always exciting works-in-progress on the stovetop!

BLACK PenTHER

Creators' Unit

BLACK PenTHER is an 8-month writers' residency, dedicated to the amplification and illumination of the Black male lens. With the guidance of dramaturge Jordan Laffrenier, five Black male theatre artists will embark on individual writing journeys, the goal of which is for each resident to explore the stories within and to discover his own unique writer's voice.

Hot House Lift Off
& Crossing Gibraltar

Playwrights' Units

(On Hiatus)

Two of our longstanding development programs, HOT HOUSE LIFT OFF and CROSSING GIBRALTAR (combined in 2021/22 as HOT HOUSE CROSSING) are on hiatus for the 2022/2023 season. Have no fear... we love these programs and they're not gone forever! They are each an amazing part of Cahoots and have introduced us to some incredible artists. This season, though, we're introducing some exciting new things and because we can't do everything - and HHLO and CG have been such a huge part of the last few years - we're giving them a bit of a breather. They will be back!

On the Burner (Works in Development)

We have no productions currently in-development. Check back later!

Theatre is what we do

We tell the stories that pulsate in the shadows.

We hand the mic to those who have gone unheard.

We turn up the volume and refocus the spotlight.

... and we've done it for 35 years and counting.
